The titles Nectar of Instruction and Nectar of Devotion sound similar, but they name different works. Choosing between them is easier when you know the kind of reading each invites.
Nectar of Instruction
Nectar of Instruction presents Srila Rupa Goswami’s Upadesamrita with Srila Prabhupada’s translation and commentary. Its concise instructions make it suitable for returning to a passage and considering it slowly. Brevity does not mean that every teaching is simple to apply.
The first instruction addresses restraint of several urges, beginning with speech and the mind. The third instruction discusses qualities favourable to devotion, including enthusiasm and patience. A newcomer can study a passage with guidance and carry one clear question into the day.
Nectar of Devotion
Nectar of Devotion is Srila Prabhupada’s summary study of Rupa Goswami’s Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu. It offers a more extensive treatment of devotional service. Give its terms and distinctions time rather than reading advanced descriptions as something to imitate immediately.
If your present question is “What is bhakti, and how is its practice described?”, this broader study may be especially relevant. Keep an introductory scripture such as the Bhagavad Gita in your reading life alongside it.
A practical way to choose
Choose Nectar of Instruction when you want a concise work for repeated reflection on devotional conduct. Choose Nectar of Devotion when you are ready to spend longer with a systematic study of bhakti. These are reading suggestions, not rules about spiritual qualification.
